This article will analyze Steve Jobs and his control over the media organization known as Pixar from 1986 to 2006. Integrated the two theories were used by Steve Jobs transactional leadership and transformational leadership. By mixing these two theories, I noticed that Steve Jobs has managed to create his own brand of charismatic leadership. Steve Jobs, in a sense, addresses these theories as two stages of a movement.

Who is Steve Jobs?

In 1986, Steve Jobs purchased a Graphics Group from Lucasfilm computer graphics division. Even if it was purchased for $ 10 million, this was considered an expensive purchase. George Lucas was taking some financial difficulties. He was going through a divorce right now and in California the spouse gets half of everything. George Lucas did not want to lose control over its financial business of Star Wars so he made plans to give his ex-wife of a monetary settlement.

Lucas thinks that the sale of his computer graphics company was the fastest way, it could generate more revenue. He expects to get $ 100 million for the company. Steve Jobs managed to get the company for only 10 million. Jobs relocated the company in Emeryville, California, and named Pixar. This purchase was one of many strategic moves, Steve Jobs made from 1986 to 2006. While these decisions, Steve Jobs was incorporating transactional and transformational leadership.

Transactional transformational

Wayne Gretzky was often asked about his success in hockey. Gretzky always said he does not focus on where the puck is, it focuses on where the puck is going. This is a saying that Steve Jobs often cites. He was always trying to "see where the puck was going" with regard to computer technology.

This did not sit well with many of his employers. Apple CEO essentially "ousted" Steven Jobs for his visionary speech. It was at this point that Jobs formed another company called NeXT computers. Steve Jobs also purchased what is now Pixar. These actions on his part to prove, "the kind of work a leader in the rhetorical mode of transformation is facing a personnel (Apple computers) anchored in a transactional mode. It provides an overview of further features that make the rhetoric of Steve Jobs speech so persuasive "(Nelson 248). Steve Jobs has convinced many people to follow him as he had planned to build the computer technology of the future.

Steven had worked primarily in transactional mode during the construction of Apple Computers, but he wanted to extend the transactional mode to a mode of transformation. Unfortunately, Apple Computers CEO was comfortable with a transactional mode and did not want things to change.

A leader like Steven Jobs can be a transformational leader and transactional leader. It is harder for a leader to move transaction to look to a future of transformation, but it is easy for a leader who is essentially processing, such as Steven Jobs, to oscillate between two modes of current and potential future. "Exceptional transactional leadership can not substitute for transformational leadership" (Nelson 402). "Steve Jobs has an uncanny ability to create a vision and convince others to become part of it. Some scholars see the transformational leadership and charismatic leadership to be very similar "(Nelson 402).

Charismatic leadership in Pixar

By combining transactional leadership and transformational leader can become a charismatic leader with an organization. Leadership CEO Steve Jobs Pixar over 1986 to 2006 was a prime example of charismatic leadership born of these two approaches. Charismatic leadership is difficult to define because many scholars disagree on the criteria for someone to have charisma. Almost everyone agrees that charismatic leaders have gifts and talents that are effectively used to persuade people to believe in their ideas.

I consider transactional leadership and transformational leadership as useful talents that could be used effectively to persuade a group of people. Jay Conger in his book Charismatic Leadership in Organizations connects these three forms of leadership in a single approach. "Many researchers postulated that charisma is an attribute of popular leaders who serve in the agent of change or transformation of roles. Others believe that charismatic leadership is the most exemplary transformational leaders could take"
